It's easy to get bogged down and to feel like you're in a rut. With bills to pay, work to complete, and family to take care of, life can sometimes feel like a repetitious drag. But, if you change your perspective just a bit, maybe you'll see things in a more positive light. Don't believe us? These images will show you just how much things change once you're willing to change your perspective!
A Megalodon Compared To A Great White
If you weren't scared of the ocean before, get ready, because this picture is not going to help. What you see below is a life-size model of a modern-day great white shark, and the shark is hanging within the jaws of the prehistoric megalodon shark. The megalodon, history's largest shark, is supposedly extinct, but can you imagine running into one of those things on the open water? It would be over before you had a chance to react.
There are still so many species of marine life that we haven't discovered yet, but still, we're hoping there's nothing this big lurking down there.
Calling Men and Women Of All Shapes and Sizes
If anyone ever told you that you were too big, or too small to do something, they didn't know what they were talking about. People of all shapes and sizes can do all different kinds of jobs, and these two police officers are the perfect example that proves that rule. Looking at this crazy size disparity between them, but then realizing that they're still doing the exact same job was pretty eye-opening.
We imagine that the officers in this police department probably have to share squad cars pretty often. Can't you just imagine her climbing in and trying to reach the pedals after he's been driving?
This Is Like That Blue And Gold Dress All Over Again
Alright, here's the million-dollar question: what color is the liquid in these buckets? If you answered it is two different colored liquids, you're wrong already. Apparently, this image shows the exact same liquid poured equally between a blue bucket and a white bucket. But, due to the light reflecting off the buckets, and the relative transparency of the liquid, we're seeing it as a different color entirely. So, did you figure out what color it was originally?
If you said yellow, you were correct! The white bucket has yellow liquid in it, and if we remember our color wheel, blue and yellow make green!
Bananas Before And After Domestication
Bananas used to be largely inedible thanks to the host of hard, black seeds running through the middle of the fruit. But, thanks to years of careful breeding and selection, with people sharing only the most delicious bananas, we wound up with one strain that everyone around the world eats. But, this could eventually lead to a serious problem if a pest or virus comes after that breed of banana, which could leave all of us left eating some very unappealing fruits.
There are rumors that a new banana-borne pathogen could be on the loose, so go stock up before the panic buying starts and you can't find any.
A Tale Of Two New York Cities
New York City is one of the most famous, and widely visited places in the world. And, while many people have heard of Central Park, they probably don't realize the sheer grandeur of this natural oasis in the middle of Manhattan. The park features fields, a zoo, and a small amusement park, all for New Yorkers to enjoy. This picture below even looks like it could be two different pictures smashed together, but it's not, it's just Manhattan in autumn.
If this were a picture from the summer, the park would be packed with people. Instead, this looks to be a cool, Fall morning.
Which One Of Us Is Taller?
If you don't recognize either of these Olympians, that's gymnast Simone Biles on the right, and on the left is volleyball player David Lee. Both of these human beings are champions in their fields, but can you notice anything different about them? Alright, you got us, Simone isn't wearing shoes. No, seriously though, check out that height difference! Isn't it amazing that both of these people could still be world-class Olympic athletes?
Maybe this picture can teach us a thing or two. Like, if you're not feeling like you're living up to your potential, maybe you just haven't found your niche yet. Maybe try gymnastics or volleyball!
Barbie Standing Next To Normally Proportioned Barbie
Women come in all shapes and sizes, which was the biggest gripe with the original Barbie doll from the beginning. It's hard to create representation for all women when their most popular toy is an unrealistically proportioned, white, blonde woman. Thankfully in recent years, Mattel has done a good job of creating representation in the Barbie line of products. Still though, we'd appreciate seeing a doll with some more realistic proportions, like the average-sized Barbie on the right.
Nickolay Lamm is the designer responsible for creating the Barbie on the right. They based the doll's proportions off of that of a hypothetical, average 19-year-old woman.
That Was One Long Walk
The young man you see below is Christophe Rehage. A few years ago, he decided to undertake a pilgrimage and to walk from China, home to his native Germany. He filmed himself and blogged about the trip along the way, and this picture represents one year of progression on his trip! He didn't get a haircut or a shave the whole time and wound up looking like a wild man.
Rehage decided to change his mindset, and explore the world in an untraditional way when he undertook this journey. It's something we plan to learn from. There's plenty of world within walking distance that's just waiting for us to explore!
Prague 1910 Versus Prague 110 Years Later
One of the greatest things about traveling through Europe is that every city you visit feels like it is just steeped in history. A lot of these places have barely changed over the years too, as we can see from these images of Prague down below. Sure, the people's styles may have changed, and the city added a streetlight, but with the statue and the cobblestone street and the whole rest of the scene, everything else is practically the same.
Wasn't the camera technology they had back then just stunning? The newer picture looks better obviously, but it's hard to believe that the other is more than a hundred years old.
Which Photo Is Real Life, and Which Is the Anime?
The cartoons we used to watch growing up were a lot different than what we see on TV today. For one, you could tell they were cartoons! But, as we see from this picture below, animation styles in some studios are getting so advanced, that it's hard to tell a computer-generated image apart from a real one. Just look at the way they added in all that light reflection in the animated version.
What's sad is that we're not even sure if we could take a photo this incredible, let alone recreate that entire thing in photoshop! Some people are so talented.
Human's Eye View Vs. A Bird's Eye View
When we say we've got a bird's eye view, that usually means we're looking straight down at something. But, as we see in the picture below, maybe it's time to update the phrase. A bird's eye isn't just seeing from up above, they're also seeing an array of colors that the human eye can't pick up. On top of the reds, greens, and blues that we can see, birds can also see rays of UV light and the colors associated with them.
So, next time you're out and you see a flock of birds, just remember that they're probably a lot prettier than your eyes are able to realize.
They Don't Make Them Like They Used To
The two bottles in this picture both contain Windex, but there's a drastic difference between them. One is from this century, and the other is from the last century, yet they both look practically identical! Sure, the bottle on the left is showing some wear on the paper label, but it's from 1979! Let's give the old thing a break! Besides, this is a great example of how we've been led to believe that almost all plastic is single-use.
By reusing this bottle over the years, this woman has saved her household from creating even more plastic waste, which is something we all should be striving to do.
Young Man Recreates Photo Of His Father, 38 Years After The Fact
They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and in this family that is most certainly the case, because this father and son are almost identical! After this young man found an old photo of his father, he decided to stage the exact same photo and compare the differences. But, besides the fact that his old man was wearing a Michigan t-shirt, and that he's wearing a Cincinnati t-shirt, we're having trouble finding anything else to critique!
This is the type of heartwarming image that we're sure this young man turns to whenever he's having a hard day, even though he probably doesn't need the image anyway. He could just look in the mirror, and it'll be like his father is right there already!
Adult Sunfish Compared To Newborn Sunfish
The sunfish is the heaviest bony fish in the world– that we know of– and they are known not only for their gargantuan stature but also their tendency to float on the ocean's surface and warm themselves in the sun while floating on their sides. They're one of the ocean's most interesting creatures, at least in our opinion, and one of the things that give them this status is the sheer amount they grow over their lifetimes.
The adult sunfish in the top picture is easily 100 times the size of the two baby sunfish you see on the bottom. That means those little ones have quite a lot of growing to do!
Hong Kong, 80 Years Apart
Even if you feel like everything in your life is pretty stagnant, and nothing is changing, you're probably just not looking at things through a wide enough lens. When you have a chance to step back and reevaluate, you'll realize that things are constantly changing all around us. Just look at this picture of Hong Kong from 1920 versus the year 2000 and you'll see what we mean! Who could've predicted a boom like that!
There was no way anyone could've predicted that Hong Kong would be a major port to rival Dalian and China's other major shipping centers, but here we are!
Look At This Pristine Piece Of Untouched Bamboo
While it's always nice to take souvenirs from a trip, some people feel the urge to leave parts of themselves back in the places they vacation, and no, we don't mean something like a pair of sunglasses. Here we see a gorgeous bamboo forest that has been absolutely defiled by graffiti, and random etchings. But, springing up in front of it all is a single, pristine, bright green stalk of strong bamboo, still standing unmolested.
In a situation like this, even if you don't think you're damaging the area, there's no reason to make graffiti. Let nature deal with things the way she always has.
This Gold And This Silver Are Worth The Same Amount
It's all about perspective in this life, so you have to remember to take a breath and check yourself if you're feeling worthless. Just because someone is a little bit bigger than you or something like that, it doesn't make them more valuable. Just use these piles of gold and silver as an example. Which one of the piles do you think is worth $5,000? If we told you it was both of them, would you believe us?
It's important to remember that we can't judge a book by its cover. Forget about how things look on the outside, it's your inherent worth that's much more important.
Is Pluto Still A Planet Or Not?
It was one of the most pointless crusades to name ourselves officers of in our youth, but for some reason, everyone was very offended when Pluto lost its status as a planet. It didn't seem fair that something so big, floating out there in space, could be stripped of its title by us measly humans sitting on Earth. But, when you take a look at Pluto compared to Australia, the classification starts to make a little more sense.
We're not sure if this makes us more impressed with the size of Australia, or more bummed by the size of Pluto, but we never realized the disparity was that small.
The Before Pictures Versus The During Pictures
Usually, we're used to seeing before and after photos. This time, we got one photo from before pregnancy, and one photo from the middle of it, and quite obviously, this woman is having a tough time. It's common knowledge that women's feet and ankles are prone to swelling during pregnancy, and this woman's lower leg has almost lost its shape entirely. But, from another perspective, she's bringing new life into this world, which is beautiful.
This photo makes us want a foot rub, and we're not even pregnant. Can you imagine how this woman must feel?
This Doggo Looks Exactly Like His Food Bag
Either this dog food company has a really, really clever marketing department, or this is just one of our favorite coincidences in a while. The logo on the bag of food looks exactly like this handsome boy, posture, and everything. The dog's parents were so surprised when they saw the doppelganger that they had to snap a picture and upload it. To them, it's a funny thing to share, but from the dog's perspective, they're just delaying his dinner.
Wouldn't it be great if they made custom dog foods with your pet's face on the bag? Better yet, wouldn't it be great if they made custom people food with our own faces on the bags?
The Original Gerber Baby Then Vs. A Little While Ago
You've probably seen this woman a million times before in your life without realizing it. Her name is Ann Turner Cook, and she was the model for the original Gerber baby– the one they're still using on their products today! You'd think after 94 years, maybe her supermodel good looks would've faded, but not in the slightest. Maybe Gerber needs to think about making a line of products for seniors and using her as their logo again!
This picture helped give us some good perspective about life, aging, and the accomplishments we make along the way. Ms. Turner Cook recently passed away at 94. If only we could all be so lucky to live that long!
There's Something Familiar About That Old Picture
It's incredible how much some babies look like their mothers, but not surprising when we dive into the science of everything. Genetic traits can be passed down from generation to generation, so there's no reason a child can't look like their mother, their grandmother, and their great grandmother at the same time! For this girl in the picture below, it's only one of the three, but the resemblance is uncanny, and frankly, a little bit creepy!
This is like something you see in a horror movie, you know? The ghost has actually been grandma all along, and now you need to avenge her death. We'd buy tickets.
Wedding Photos Recreated On Diamond Anniversary
This adorable couple decided to get all gussied up in their wedding finest and recreate the photos from their own wedding day. The most incredible part was that they were celebrating their diamond anniversary– that's 60 years of marriage! It's too bad we can't ask this couple for some advice on love, because they seem to be approaching their relationship with the right perspective. Also, aren't they still just as adorable as the day they got married?
A strong relationship requires teamwork and respect, but if you want it to last sixty years, get ready to put in the work!
Barcelona Days Versus Barcelona Nights
We don't normally get to see cities from above, so any chance to peek at aerial footage is always exciting. These pictures of Barcelona take that a step further since they were snapped from the exact same vantage point, 12 hours apart. It's amazing, though, that these are the same city streets on both sides of the picture, yet the left looks so much more ominous. Something about that nighttime photo looks like a Tron videogame!
Obviously, from the street, we would never notice any of this. That's why we're glad this inventive photographer decided to show Barcelona off in this unique way.
The Longest Limo In The World: Then Vs. Now
Back in 1986, Guinness crowned a new champion in the world's longest limousine category, giving the title to a 100+ foot long Caddilac called The American Dream. The vehicle was the height of luxury, featuring a water bed, a jacuzzi, televisions, and two engines. But, as we see from the bottom image, being the biggest, baddest, longest or best isn't always the most important thing to be, especially if you're a limousine.
There was no way to deal with the monumental upkeep for this behemoth, so The American Dream went to rot. Thankfully though, someone recently purchased it, and it will be refurbished to be displayed in a car museum.
It Could Always Be Worse
If you think you've got a tough job, just imagine being one of the players on El Salvador's national women's basketball team when you play against the United States. Can you imagine having to play defense against a girl almost twice your own size? It would be almost impossible! Plus, this would be a demoralizing sight for anyone. Whatever happened to the old saying: "Pick on somebody your own size?"
Even though it looks like the US women's team would win easily, the team from El Salvador is a talented bunch, and they put up a great fight. It just goes to show that it's not always the size of the dog in the fight...
Five Generations Of Hands In One Photo
Time passes by us so slowly, day by day and hour by hour, so it's hard to pull back and realize just how monumentally quickly time is passing. These women got an incredible reminder of how much can happen in the span of a few short years when they gathered at a family function and took this beautiful picture. That's five generations of hands from the same family line, all together at the same time.
So, this picture features a child, her mother, the child's grandmother, the child's great-grandmother, and the child's great-great-grandmother! This family has got some good genes apparently, so maybe that child will one day be able to recreate this photo with her great-great-granddaughter!
Woman Meets Her 1891 Doppelgänger
In 1891, William-Adolphe Bouguereau, a popular french painter, created a famous work called "The Broken Pitcher." The work represents a child's ascent into adulthood and has been displayed at museums worldwide. Still, one visitor to the art museum that had this painting on display was totally unprepared, and frankly pretty shocked, when she realized that the girl in the painting is her exact doppelganger! It's almost like she's looking at an old photo of herself.
We've seen a bunch of instances where this happens at art museums. People are always surprised, but if you think about it, people today can't look that much different than people did in the 19th century (except for our clothes perhaps).
Who You Calling Baby Face?
When a young man reaches a certain age and can start to grow facial hair, it's always exciting for him to experiment with what different styles look good. Plus, growing a beard automatically makes a young man look older, so it's hard not to get attached. Make sure you don't get too attached to those beards though, or else you might even forget what you look like under there. Just look at this guy, he looks shocked!
It's crazy the amount of age that beard added for him. In the left image he's maybe 30, but in the right image he could only be like 25, tops.
North America Laid Out On Jupiter
If you've ever driven across the United States then you know, it is a huge country! North America as a whole is a monstrous continent. But, the size of North America is nothing compared to the size of some of the other incredible things in our universe. Take Jupiter for example. That gas giant covered in colored clouds sitting all the way on the other side of the asteroid belt, that thing dwarfs not just North America, but the entire earth.
We know more about the planets and stars today than at any other time in history, and that base of knowledge is just going to keep expanding.
Human Hand Compared To Polar Bear Claw
Polar Bears are the largest species of bear still alive on earth, which sounds big, but you can't fully understand their majesty until you've seen one up close. Even then, the polar bears in zoos are largely stunted and can't fully display their species' incredible size. So, when this explorer found some polar bear tracks, they took the opportunity to use their own hand and take some pictures for scale. We just hope they looked around for the bear first!
That paw is easily the size of a human head, maybe even larger, so this bear is definitely not someone we'd want to mess with.
Our Other Car Is A Wolfhound
It's a big day when a young person is finally legally allowed to drive. All of a sudden we get this newfound independence. Also, we remember when we were sixteen, we definitely wanted to show off for our crush in the school parking lot. But, that might be kind of hard to do if the car you're driving is only big enough for one. This little blue hatchback looks like it couldn't even fit that dog!
This car might not actually be that small, comparatively. An Irish Wolfhound is the tallest of all dog breeds, so that big fella would make a lot of vehicles look this way.
Galaxies Versus The Human Eye
The universe is infinite, which also means it is infinitely interesting. There are so many different stars, planets, and galaxies left to explore, that there's no telling what we might find. Plus, as scientists continue to discover more and more about space, they're finding these beautiful coincidences (or maybe they're something more than coincidences) like the one you see below. Just don't blink, you might miss it, because we never realized the human eye looks exactly like distant galaxies!
This makes us want to binge space movies, don't you feel the same way? Apollo 13, Interstellar, we could really make an entire night out of it!
A Cuban Avocado Versus A Hass Avocado
The worst part of making guacamole is usually having to stand there and peel avocado after avocado in order to make a big enough batch. But, with these gigantic Cuban avocados, that will never be an issue again. These monstrous cousins of the Hass avocado that we're familiar with are used in many different ways in Cuban cuisine. Avocados are a lot more accessible than salad greens on the island, so a lot of the time, avocado will be the base for Cuban salads!
This is another great example of how a shift in perspective can change everything. Even the way we view different fruits and vegetables all depends on our perspectives.
Meet The New Generation Of Star Trek
Star Trek is one of those pieces of media with such a dedicated fan base, they would be willing to literally fight to defend their favorite characters. That created some tension recently though since the studios wanted to revitalize the franchise with new actors. People were very defensive about not replacing the original Spock, and how the franchise didn't need a reboot, but eventually they came around. Now, the new Star Trek movies are (almost) as beloved as the old ones!
Star Trek isn't the only franchise that has experienced these growing pains recently. New generations of audiences are itching to see the content, but studios need older fans to back them as well.
Class Divisions In South Africa
Money troubles can be the root of all evil for some people. Poverty, in a lot of ways, is like a cycle that is incredibly hard to break out of, since all of your disposable income has to go towards maintaining the low level of stability you do have, as opposed to using that income to scale up. That's why we try to constantly remind ourselves how lucky we are to have the things that we do, and this picture helped reinforce that.
As you can see, even in that cushy neighborhood on the left, poverty is still right on their doorstep.
A Person's Eyesight Versus A Dog's
Most people think that dogs see in black and white, but that's only half the truth. Their vision is more blurry than ours, and the colors are more muted, but scientists agree that they still can see vague colors. But, what this picture fails to take into account is the incredible other sense that dogs have, that humans do not. For example, that dog can probably smell exactly what you ate for lunch today, and he just heard you pass gas.
Differences in eyesight aside, dogs really are man's best friend. Look at this faithful good boy standing by his owner's side while she goes through treatment. So sweet!
Is This Vitiligo, Or A Tattoo?
If someone is diagnosed with a disease like vitiligo, it can be incredibly difficult for them to process. Plus, the thought of seeing people in public, while someone has this clearly visible condition, can be incredibly stressful for the person suffering. That's why we found this picture so heartwarming, and why we know this girl is going to be just fine in dealing with her vitiligo, and her haters. Just look at the gorgeous tattoo work she had done!
This unbelievable piece of art incorporates the natural markings on the woman's body with a mosaic of the universe, and we are 100% here for it.
It's Not Exactly Walking On Water, But It's Close
No, that's not a boat, it's a water lily! The Victoria water lily can grow to be almost 3 meters wide and can even support the weight of a small child. That's why they're perfect to help you change your perspective. Stack a few on top of each other, sink down to the water's level, and take a look around from the top of one of these natural viewing platforms. That looks like heaven on earth!
If you are going to spend some time sitting on a lily pad, just make sure you share. There are frogs and other animals who want their turn too!
A Human Finger Next To A Chimpanzee's
Even though evolution is still technically a theory, we believe it, and when you see an image like this it's impossible not to! On the left, we see a chimpanzee's finger. Chimps are supposedly the closest genetic relative to human beings, and when you compare that chimpanzee finger on the left to the human finger on the right, it makes a lot of sense. We're still practically identical in so many ways!
This is another great reminder that we are all a part of nature, not somehow removed from it. What happens to the planet, and the other species on it, is our responsiblity.
A Grandmother And Her Granddaughter
If you look at your family photos, you will notice that some of the obvious features are passed down generations. Some family members have a stronger resemblance than others of course, but you do get some relatives like this grandmother and granddaughter who are so similar in appearance that you almost can't tell where one's face ends and the other begins. Obviously one telltale sign would be the difference in hair color.
This 61-year-old grandmother and her 12-year-old granddaughter could almost be twins from a different time period. It would be interesting to see how much the other family members resemble each other-- maybe this family just has extremely strong genes.
Ken 1985 Vs. Ken 2018
Is it just us or does the Ken of 1985 kind of look like Robert Redford? There are some noticeable differences between these two Ken dolls: The hairstyles definitely represent the time periods that they are from, Ken from the 1980s is more tan and also has blue eyes. We're not sure why the eye color needed updating, but maybe it would have been too much contrast against the blonder hair.
After all, Kenneth Sean "Ken" Carson was introduced in 1961 and surely has come a long way since then. Something you may not have noticed is that 1985 Ken could swivel his head around whereas 2018 Ken cannot. Is that representative of the times we live in? Only Mattel could say for sure.
